The Patient Experience Panel (PEP) is a committee of Patient Experience Partners that work with hospital staff on projects that impact patient care.
Members are former patients and family members of patients who have received care at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH). Members have experience in different inpatient programs and outpatient clinics at MGH, including the Emergency Department and Medicine, Surgery, Oncology, Hemodialysis and Mental Health units.
PEP meets at least four times a year to give input on hospital initiatives and improvement projects. During the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings take place virtually using Zoom. Some examples of projects that PEP has been involved with include:
PEP members have acted as a patient or family member during simulation interviews with potential staff. Members bring a unique perspective when looking at a potential staff’s ability to provide patient centred care.
PEP members helped select the language and design used in the “Made with Patients & Families” logo. This logo is used on materials that have been co-created with patients and families.
PEP members helped inform a health literacy training for staff. They provided feedback on the content, design, and functionality of the training.
PEP members provided to improve design and flow. These updates were recognized as a best practice by the Knowledge Institute.
PEP members co-created the discharge summary that guides conversations for patients returning home. This information helps patients manage their health at home.
PEP members provided feedback throughout the MGH's redevelopment project. Members also previewed mock-up patient rooms and public spaces to help with the design of these areas.
PEP members provided feedback on the content of advance care planning materials. Materials included pamphlets, a workbook, video content and a PowerPoint presentation.
